development of Industrial Computers, is showcasing their NEMA 4X dedicated series
of panel PCs.
As we are sure most of you in the manufacturing industry are aware, the National
Electrical Manufacturer Association or NEMA developed what are known as NEMA ratings
which are standards that define the types of environments in which an electrical
enclosure can be used. NEMA ratings classify the degrees of protection from external
ice, corrosive materials, oil immersion, dust, water, etc. The NEMA 4X standards
call for enclosures intended for indoor or outdoor use primarily to provide a degree
of protection against corrosion, windblown dust and rain, splashing water, and hose
directed water.
Applications: The typical NEMA 4X enclosure is fabricated from stainless steel.
This enclosure can be used in harsher environments than standard NEMA 4 units since
the NEMA 4X enclosure has corrosion resistance. Applications where corrosive materials
and caustic cleaners are used, necessitate the use of a NEMA 4X enclosure. A few
examples are NEMA 4X enclosure applications for sanitary poultry processing facilities
(where total wash-down with disinfectants occur repeatedly), petro-chemical refineries
and offshore drilling platforms for oil and natural gas, etc. The NEMA 4X enclosure
is used when protection from the worst environments is required.
Arista recognized an overwhelming need for a quality NEMA 4X series of industrial
panel computers given the manufacturing operations that take place in harsh and
strict sanitary environments. The ARP-5500AX series, originally released in Q3 2009,
is a stainless steel fully sealed industrial computer with a choice of an integrated
15-inch, 17-inch, or 19-inch TFT display. The ARP-5500AX is the latest in low voltage
fanless panel computing. This panel PC series was designed from the ground up to
meet the challenges of the rugged NEMA 4X Industrial world.
The system is available with a 5-wire resistive touch screen in order to increase
operator accuracy and efficiency. Arista's touch screens are constructed with the
harshest environments in mind, allowing for operation with gloved hands and will
deliver drift-free operation.
The ARP-5500AX Series supports two standard configurations: 1.5GHz VIA C7 low power
processor, 1GB of memory or the high performance Intel Core 2 Duo Mobile Processor
with up to 4GB of memory. Both of these standard configurations come with a 2.5
inch Hard Drive, one USB port, two serial ports, two gigabit LAN ports and 1x Mini
PCI Expansion slot. O/S support includes WinXP Pro, XPe. This series is available
with AC or DC24V power input options and operates from 0 to 50 degree C. Another
key advantage of the ARP-5500AX Series is that it supports multiple mounting options
such as bench top mount, wall mount, pedestal mount, ceiling, and VESA mount. With
all these mounting options this versatile system will fit many applications. The
ARP-5500AX Series is compliant with the IP65 protective water proof standard making
the system an ideal solution for industrial environments that have constant exposure
to moisture and other contaminates as well as environments where sanitation is required.
This series can handle hose down procedures and is resistant to most chemicals used
during cleaning in the food and pharmaceutical industries. Because of its space-saving
attributes, the stand-alone ARP-5500AX can be integrated into restricted space enclosures.
This sealed, stainless steel system is a perfect solution for a number of industrial
applications including: Food Processing, Pharmaceutical, Chemical, and Wastewater
industries.
The ARP-5500AX Series also incorporates thin client technology. Arista offers an
optional ACP ThinManager Enabled version that provides for instantaneous, automatic
fail over to any available backup server if the client detects problems with the
primary server.
